Mr Haji Ajmal Rahmani and his colleagues from Wolesi Jirga met US Congressman Mark Green from Tennessee and US Congresswoman Kathy Manning from North Carolina. Congressman Green serves on both House Committee on Armed Services and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs while Congresswoman Manning serves on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Subcommittee on Middle East, North Africa, and Global Counterterrorism.
Both members had comprehensive knowledge about Afghanistan, the importance of strong US – Afghan relationship, the global challenges they all face firsthand and they stand by the group’s commitment to fight extremism and terrorism. Congressman Green has an extensive military background as an elite combat veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Mr. Rahmani and his colleagues had the opportunity to brief the members on the Peace Process, the current security situation, and Parliament’s efforts to fight corruption, ensure a strong ANDSF and protect women’s rights. They also emphasized the need for continued diplomatic, humanitarian, and security support to aid in the ongoing fight against terrorism. They also had an open discussion on how to work together to ensure Afghan women succeed and have the tools they need to be recognized as equal members of society.
The group is grateful for their time and their sincerity towards the people of Afghanistan and their success. They look forward to enhancing working relations between Parliament and Congress to ensure Afghanistan’s progress is protected, and peace is maintained.
